Scotland’s horror scene needed a home.

A place where fans, creators, makers and horror lovers could come together and celebrate everything dark, weird and terrifying.

Northern Frights was created to give Scotland’s horror community that space.

We work with filmmakers, authors, artists, performers, traders, special effects creators and independent businesses, while creating events that go far beyond simply turning up, walking around and going home.

We want people to be part of the experience.

Horror belongs here. So do you.

Horror Con Scotland is one of Northern Frights’ biggest success stories.

The first event welcomed around 200 horror fans in 2022. Since then, it has grown to more than 3,000 attendees at the SEC Glasgow.

Along the way, we’ve worked with major names in horror, gaming and entertainment, including Dead by Daylight, Resident Evil and Bethesda, while continuing to grow the event year after year.

What started as a small horror convention has become one of the biggest parts of Northern Frights - and it’s still growing.

Northern Frights was founded by Laura Ripley in 2015 after years of travelling outside Scotland to find the kind of horror events and experiences she wished existed closer to home.

Rather than waiting for someone else to create them, she decided to do it herself.

Since then, Northern Frights has grown into an independent events company producing conventions, immersive horror experiences, Halloween events, film screenings, escape experiences and live entertainment across Scotland.

Laura continues to oversee Northern Frights from concept through to delivery, working across event production, partnerships, creative development, marketing and everything else required to bring each event to life.

Laura’s dedication and relentless drive have earned her major recognition, including:

Northern Frights is about more than putting dates in a calendar.

We want to create memorable experiences, support independent horror talent and give Scotland’s horror community somewhere it can properly call its own.

That might mean bringing thousands of horror fans together at a convention, locking someone inside a coffin escape room, turning an unusual venue into an immersive horror experience or giving a Scottish creator the chance to put their work in front of a new audience.
