Scotland's Home of Horror

At Northern Frights - we don't do ordinary. We create immersive horror experiences that throw you straight into the action.

From conventions, scare experiences and coffin escape rooms to horror film screenings, live entertainment and unforgettable encounters, everything we create is designed to leave a lasting impression.

Built by horror fans, for horror fans, Northern Frights exists to bring Scotland's horror community together and create experiences you'll still be talking about long after you leave.

Why Horror Needs a Home in Scotland

Scotland’s horror scene needed a home.

A place where fans, creators, makers and horror lovers could come together and celebrate everything dark, weird and terrifying.

We’re here to give Scotland’s horror talent a proper space, from filmmakers and authors to artists, performers, traders and special effects creators, while creating events that feel like more than just a day out.

Horror belongs here. So do you.

Our Founder

Northern Frights was founded by Laura Ripley after years of travelling outside Scotland to find the kind of horror experiences she wished existed here.

Rather than waiting for someone else to create them, she decided to do it herself.

What started as a way to bring horror fans together has grown into a company creating immersive horror experiences across Scotland, from conventions and Halloween events to scare experiences, film screenings and more.

Today, Northern Frights has worked with brands like Dead by Daylight and Resident Evil while continuing to give Scotland’s horror fans, creators and businesses a place to come together and celebrate the genre they love.

Laura now runs Northern Frights with her team of demons, making sure every event is packed with atmosphere, creativity and plenty of unforgettable moments.

Laura’s dedication and relentless drive have earned her major recognition, including:

RBS Female Entrepreneur of the Year (2023)

FSB Freelancer/Self-Employed Award (2024)

Innovation in Tourism Award (2024)

Awards

Meet the Demons

Behind Northern Frights is a team of misfits, monsters, and mayhem-makers. These are the demons who keep the chaos flowing (and the humans screaming).

Janet - The Boss Demon

Role: CEO – Chief Evil Officer

Personality: Janet runs the show, whether anyone likes it or not. Sarcastic, razor-witted and proudly grumpy, she masterminds every event from the shadows and has a special talent for dealing with customers who think complaining will get them somewhere. Spoiler: it won’t.

Interests: When she’s not planning chaos, Janet can usually be found collecting human souls, chasing unpaid invoices, perfecting sarcastic comebacks, or hiding snacks from the rest of the team.

Allan - Customer Torment Representative

Role: Customer Service Demon

Personality: Patient, perpetually tired, and far too polite for his own good. Allan bravely handles emails from humans, filing complaints directly into “the void” (also known as Janet’s desk). He’s 90% caffeine, 10% fear of Janet.

Interests: Stress-baking cupcakes, practicing polite ways to say “no,” and crying quietly in the staff room.

Hagatha - Director of Curses & Complaints

Role: Hex Enforcement & Malcontent Management

Personality: Sharp-tongued, unwashed, and dripping with sarcasm. Hagatha handles complaints that Allan can’t deal with – usually by cursing whoever sent them. She also doubles as our in-house doom consultant.

Interests: Brewing questionable potions, collecting the teeth of her enemies, shouting at pigeons, and binge-watching romantic shorts like vampire-werewolf-mafia-boss love triangles.

Snarkles the Clown - Chaos Coordinator

Role: Head of Mischief & Mayhem

Personality: Loud, unpredictable, and just a bit stabby. Snarkles is responsible for ensuring all events have the perfect mix of laughter and terror. If something goes wrong, it’s probably Snarkles’ fault… or plan.

Interests: Balloon animals (with fangs), jump scares, juggling knives, and making people cry – with laughter or fear, doesn’t matter which.

The Nocturnal - Vampiric Liaison Officer

Role: Head of Silent Stares & Night Operations

Personality: Quiet, intense, and unnervingly observant. The Nocturnal manages our late-night schemes, stares at people until they’re uncomfortable, and is known for answering questions with an icy glare rather than actual words.

Interests: Moonlit walks, crypt naps, blood cocktails, and awkwardly appearing behind you without warning.
