How do we fix the damage caused by British Horror Studio?

On 7 March 2025, Lawrie Brewster on behalf of British Horror Studio (Hex Studios, Amicus Productions and Fife Creative Studios), publicly started a disinformation campaign about Horror Con Scotland and Northern Frights.

The disinformation campaign overview:

  • He knowingly posted a statement filled with lies about Horror Con Scotland and Northern Frights.

  • He deleted comments which supported Horror Con Scotland or requested he provide evidence of his claims. He deleted all supportive comments, actively responded to negative comments, and encouraged people not to purchase tickets for the event.

  • He contacted companies and individuals directly to discredit Horror Con Scotland and Northern Frights, even calling the owner of Northern Fright’s ‘Crazy’ for defending the business.

  • He attempted to get our responses and evidence against him taken off of Facebook, by repeatedly reporting them, while ensuring his post remained live.

  • He used intimidation tactics to get us to take down our responses, including legal threats.

  • He removed the offending post on 22 March 2025, replacing it with a follow-up post on 23 March 2025, in which he doubled down on his lies.

  • He sent us emails asking for a de-escalation of the situation, offering no apologies or attempts to fix the damage done.

He has caused deliberate reputational and financial harm to Horror Con Scotland and Northern Frights.

Overview of our retaliatory actions:

  • Publication of a satirical post entitled ‘What Lawrie Brewster would say if he was being honest’, which corrects the lies in his post. This is available on Facebook and our blog.

  • Publication of blogs addressing the situation with Lawrie Brewster and British Horror Studio.

  • Publication of screenshots in defence of Horror Con Scotland and Northern Frights, showing the extent of Lawrie Brewster’s lies.

  • Issued cease and desist letters, by recorded delivery, to the addresses we could find, related to British Horror Studio. All of which were received and ignored.

  • Publication of a call to action for anyone else who may have been affected by the unprofessional behaviour of Lawrie Brewster on behalf of British Horror Studio.

Trying to counteract the damage caused by Lawrie Brewster on behalf of British Horror Studio is stressful. It is really taking a toll on us, as the event is only a few weeks away.

Request for support

We never expected to be the victim of false statements from other businesses.

We do not know the full extent of their campaign against Horror Con Scotland and Northern Frights, and really do not want more sleepless nights from worrying.

We have a genuine concern that our business is going to be targeted by further spiteful attacks, and hope there are people out there who can support us.

While we seek legal advice, is there anything else we should be doing?
